intern with the gotham gazette

Through generous funding from the Heckscher Foundation, Gotham Gazette is offering a paid, part-time summer internship from June 1 - August 30 2019. The internship is for about 15 hours per week and a stipend of $2,750.

The intern will work on the "Max & Murphy" radio program, which airs weekly on WBAI radio and is hosted by the editors of Gotham Gazette and City Limits, Ben Max and Jarrett Murphy. The show, which currently airs Wednesdays 5-6 p.m., focuses on New York City and State politics and government, and includes interviews with elected officials, advocates, and other experts and stakeholders.

The intern will help plan and produce Max & Murphy programs, including booking guests, suggesting topics, doing prep research, and suggesting questions. The intern will write news articles for Gotham Gazette and City Limits based off the interviews on the show, and potentially conduct reporting to be presented on the program.

The intern will help promote the show, handling social media before/during/after it airs each week. The internship as production assistant and reporter with the Max & Murphy program will allow the intern to learn from two professionals in the field while getting hands-on training as both a radio production assistant and a news reporter.

The intern will work roughly 10-15 hours per week, including hours remotely, at the Gotham Gazette office in downtown Manhattan, and at the WBAI studio in downtown Brooklyn.

*Eligibility for this grant-funded internship is limited to young people 18-24 years of age coming from a disadvantaged background, including lower household income, such as current or former college students eligible for government aid and grants.*

Interested and eligible applicants can send a resume and cover letter, including a note about eligibility, to Ben Max: bmax@gothamgazette.com

The application deadline is June 1. The internship will run from June 1 to August 30 2019.
