Merrill Brown Joins Board
Merrill Brown, Director of Montclair State University's School of Communication & Media, Joins Our Board
The Center for Communication is pleased to announce the addition of Merrill Brown to our Board of Directors. At the university, Brown oversees an extensive program that encompasses TV/Radio, communications studies, digital media, journalism, filmmaking, public relations, and organizational communication. Merrill is one of the pioneers who launched CourtTV and the founding editor-in-chief of MSNBC.com. He has also been a champion for transforming journalism schools into cutting-edge laboratories that better-prepare students for jobs in the digital age.
Before taking the post in August, Brown was principal of MMB Media LLC, which provided clients with management and strategy consulting, corporate, editorial and program development, business analysis and marketing services. Since the founding of MMB Media, clients have ranged from companies in the news, information and wireless businesses to large foundations.
Brown served as Senior Strategist for Journalism Online, the startup online publishing subscription services company founded by Steven Brill, Gordon Crovitz and Leo Hindery, which was acquired by RR Donnelley. Brown served from 2005 through December 2007 as National Editorial Director of News for the 21st Century: Incubators of New Ideas (News 21), part of the Carnegie-Knight Initiative on the Future of Journalism Education.
