Panel of Experts:

Scott Falzone, Industry Director, Retail, Google

Scott Falzone is the Retail Industry Director at Google and leads the company’s national advertising business in the Specialty Retail segment, including multi-channel retailers in apparel & accessories, beauty, home furnishings, outdoor/sporting goods, pets, automotive, grocery, drugstores, etc. Falzone oversees all advertising partnerships and integrated solutions across Google and YouTube desktop and mobile platforms.

Prior to joining Google in 2006, Falzone was Vice President at Reed Business Information, a division of Reed Elsevier plc, with responsibility for digital sales, business development and strategy. Falzone earned a Master of Business Administration at New York University’s Stern School of Business, and a Bachelor of Arts from Colgate University. 

Bob mckinnon, president, galewill design

Bob McKinnon is President of GALEWiLL Design, a company that designs social change through programming, communications, advocacy, and action. Bob has led teams that have redesigned the food stamp program for the state of California, transformed the way we talk about social factors and health for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and created new ways for youth to stay above the influence for the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy. GALEWilLL has worked on issues ranging from childhood obesity to climate change. He is fortunate to have partnered with leading social change organizations such as the Gates Foundation, PBS, The Clinton Foundation, CDC, Sesame Workshop, and the Ford Foundation among many others to help millions overcome obstacles on their way to a healthier and happier life.

Bob is also the creator of Actions Speak Loudest: Keeping Our Promise for A Better World, a book designed to help us leave our children a better world than we inherited. He has produced two documentary films, is a contributor to the Huffington Post and Fast Company.  He currently is Entrepreneur in Residence at the New School and is an instructor for the School of Visual Art’s Impact!: Design for Social Change program.  Most recently, Bob launched Moving Up:  The Truth About Getting Ahead in America, an online platform designed to foster a more nuanced conversation around what the American Dream is and how more can achieve it. 

avner ronen, FOUNDER, Boxee

Avner Ronen is a NY tech entrepreneur who recently founded a new startup in the social media space. He was the Founder & CEO of Boxee, that built streaming media devices and software and was acquired by Samsung in 2013. At Samsung Mr. Ronen served as a VP of Product in the TV group. Prior to Boxee Mr. Ronen was head of Corporate Development at Comverse, a software company that acquired his first start-up, Odigo, one of the first instant messaging services.

Elizabeth Spiers is the CEO and founder of, a personal development site that covers productivity, creativity and wellness. She was previously the Editorial Director for Flavorpill Media and until Fall of 2012 was the editor in chief of The New York Observer and editorial director of Observer Media Group, where she oversaw the flagship newspaper and its digital analogs, and a variety of ancillary trade and lifestyle publications. 

Prior to the Observer, she was the founder of Breaking Media, an online media company, which produces DealBreaker (a Wall Street tabloid), AboveTheLaw (a legal tabloid) and Fashionista (a fashion tabloid). She was also the founding editor of Gawker, Gawker Media’s flagship site which she launched with publisher Nick Denton in December of 2002.

demmi choo, Longneck & Thunderfoot (Columbia Startup Lab)

Demmi is L&T’s dedicated manager of all things people. As the director of L&T’s growing network of brand journalists, she is responsible for maintaining content quality while growing the team organically. On a day-to-day basis, she also supervises talent recruitment, workflow optimization, event management, and success tracking on behalf of L&T and our clients.

A graduate of New York University, Demmi previously worked in recruitment at Nigel Frank International and as a marketing coordinator at Itemize Corp. She aims to use her experience to find and cultivate the talent on which L&T’s brand journalism successes are built.


Oliver Hoffman Garcia, Pallette (Cornell Tech)

Oliver is a software engineer with a passion for technology that brings people together. He is a graduate student currently pursuing a M.S in Information Systems with a specialization in Connective Media at Cornell Tech. He also holds a B.S in Computer Science. He enjoys building products that change other people’s lives. His interests revolve around disruptive technology, entrepreneurship, information science, and traveling. His latest project involves a tongue-controlled device to help people with quadriplegia interact with the world more independently. 


Jeongki Lim, STELLA (NYU Cinema Research Institute)

Jeongki Lim is founder of STELLA, the intelligent platform for film and video production. As a design founder at Google’s 30 Weeks, he has expertises in data visualization and design research—subjects that he teaches at Parsons The New School for Design. He is a 2016 Fellow of New York University Tisch Cinema Research Institute and holds a B.A. in Visual Media and a M.S. in Applied Urban Science, both from NYU. To learn more about his project, visit

Núria Saldanha, Vozes Brasileiras (CUNY Graduate School of Journalism)

Núria Saldanha has worked as reporter and anchor in Brazilian news company BandNews TV, where she conceived and hosted the BandNews Mercado show. In 2010 she was awarded with a BM&FBOVESPA fellowship for the M.B.A. in Economic and Financial Information, and Capital Markets at FIA - Fundação Instituto de Administração.

She is a 2015 Tow-Knight fellow for Entrepreneurial Journalism and a graduate student currently pursuing a MA in Social Journalism at CUNY. Her background is in business and economics and she is also experienced in radio, online and branded content.



Andrew Heyward is a nationally known news executive, award-winning producer, and expert on the changing media landscape. He helps media companies develop innovative online ventures and profitable digital strategies; create new content and services; and transform their businesses to drive growth and revenue in an age of rapid evolution.

Heyward was President, CBS News, from January 1996-November 2005. Before that, Heyward was executive producer of The CBS Evening News. Heyward was also responsible for developing and launching 48 Hours, the primetime CBS News hour that premiered in January 1988. He began his career working in local news at WNEW-TV and WCBS-TV in New York.
Heyward has won 12 national Emmy Awards.
