CENTER FOR COMMUNICATION HONORS CESAR CONDE,
CHAIRMAN, NBCUNIVERSAL INTERNATIONAL GROUP
AND NBCUNIVERSAL TELEMUNDO ENTERPRISES
Cesar Conde, Chairman of NBCUniversal International Group and NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises, will be honored at the Center for Communication’s annual luncheon on Thursday, November 2, 2017, at The Pierre Hotel, on Fifth Avenue at 61st Street. The Center’s annual toast/roast presents its Frank Stanton Award for Excellence in Communication each year to an extraordinary innovator in media.
As Chairman of NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises, Conde oversees a fast-growing portfolio of media properties serving Hispanic America, including the flagship Telemundo Network, which is experiencing new heights of success under his leadership. Telemundo recently unveiled its 2017-18 slate of innovative programing, which will feature more than 850 hours of original multiplatform content, including a virtual-reality experience for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, the first-ever Hispanic Snapchat show, and multiplatform content collaborations with BuzzFeed. Conde also leads NBCUniversal International Group, responsible for the international expansion of NBCUniversal businesses outside of North America. Prior to joining NBCUniversal, Conde was the President of Univision Networks and is credited with transforming it into a leading global, multiplatform media brand that experienced record ratings and profitability during his tenure.
Social and community initiatives are key to Conde’s business approach and he has emphasized the importance of empowerment initiatives for the Hispanic community, launching “El Poder En Ti,” Telemundo’s robust community initiative aimed at empowering Latinos in areas such as education, health, and finance, and Univision’s “Es el Momento” national education initiative with The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
“Under Cesar’s leadership, Telemundo is evolving rapidly and offering innovative content that resonates with Latinos in the U.S., a market that continues to grow in importance and influence on our economy and culture,” said Center for Communication Chairman David J. Barrett. “We are particularly thrilled to be honoring his deep commitment to creating opportunities for under-served youth, which is the core of our mission. We are pleased to present our founder’s namesake award to such a role model.”
“I am humbled by this recognition from the Center for Communication. Frank Stanton was a visionary who understood the importance of connecting our industry with academia by giving students access to influential media executives,” said Conde. “I am honored and thankful to be in the company of individuals who exemplify this vision, as well as those that work hard every day to bring more diversity to our industry and develop the next generation of leaders.”
The Center’s annual event is much more Golden Globes than Academy Awards; it’s the one place media and entertainment executives (and rivals) gather to share riffs, chronicle behind-the-scenes anecdotes and deliver laughs. Toasts by such industry luminaries as Keri Russell, Louis CK, David Duchovny, and Fred Armisen have been worthy of Don Rickles or Sarah Silverman. Conde will be joining the ranks of such esteemed past honorees as Michael R. Bloomberg, Ted Turner, Tom Freston, Josh Sapan, Debra Lee, Shane Smith, Katharine Graham, and William S. Paley.
Funds raised at the luncheon enable the Center to provide dozens of free educational programs serving thousands of students each year. We connect college and university students with leading media professionals to learn about career opportunities and the latest developments in the ever-evolving media industry.
